David and Victoria Beckham have slipped back into their infamous purple wedding outfits to mark their 25th anniversary.
The loved-up pair shared a joint Instagram post showing them posing on thrones similar to the ones they sat on at their lavish wedding reception on July 4, 1999.
“Look what we found…” the couple wrote, referring to the purple Antonio Berardi suits that they changed into at their Disney-themed party after the ceremony at Luttrellstown Castle outside Dublin.
At the time, the pair copped flak for the purple suits — which were deemed tacky by fashion pundits — and were mocked for posing regally on thrones.
In the pre-social media world of 1999, the wedding images caused a frenzy when they were released by the couple through a lucrative magazine publishing deal.
For the ceremony, Victoria stunned in a strapless, floor-length satin Vera Wang gown, which was said to have cost $150,000 at the time, before changing into the purple dress with a thigh-high split and sky-high heels.
Their baby son Brooklyn was also wearing a purple suit and cowboy hat to match his parents’ attire.
The couple recently joked about their unconventional outfits on the Netflix documentary series Beckham, which covers the life of the soccer legend.
“I’m trying to think back to when I decided to wear a purple suit, and I don’t know when that happened,” David said in the documentary.
“I think I just took Victoria’s lead on it, but what were we thinking?”
Victoria looked back on the outfits fondly in the series, saying they were a form of self-expression.
“It was fun, we weren’t worried about what people were going to say,” she said. “You just want to express yourself, that’s just who we were.”
The loving post and sign of unity from the pair comes amid the publication of a bombshell new book by author Tom Bower that lifts the lid on Brand Beckham.
The House of Beckham alleges that behind the scenes, the “money-obsessed” couple’s marriage has been volatile over the years, mainly due to David’s alleged infidelities.
Bower alleges the troubles started early, claiming Victoria once punched her husband in the face after accusing him of kissing another woman while she was pregnant their son Brooklyn in 1998.
The book also reiterated widely reported claims that David had an affair, which he has denied, with his personal assistant Rebecca Loos when he joined Real Madrid in 2003.
Bower also alleged that Victoria obsessively dieted and chain-smoked due to being lonely and unhappy when she moved to Madrid to be with her husband.
Relations between the couple hit a low in 2016, Bower alleged, when the pair essentially lived separate lives and had minimal communication.
In 2018, Beckham appeared on TV show The Sunday Project and called their marriage “hard work”, which Bower claims left Victoria watching on in “disbelief”.
“It was like a nuclear bomb had gone off,” Bower wrote.
“Her husband’s disloyalty baffled her. His truthfulness had destroyed her efforts to conjure up an image of happy families. Why, she sobbed, would David embarrass her?”
The pair have been more loving in recent times, charming viewers with their rendition of Islands in the Stream as they danced around their kitchen in the Netflix documentary.
