However, after learning of his parents’ financial struggles, Hemsworth turned his attention to acting in a bid to give them a better life – and he’s suggested it was “killing him” in the process.

“If I’m totally honest, I did acting to get my parents out of debt,” the now father-of-three said in his new series Limitless, now airing on Channel 9 and 9Now.

“Talking to my dad about when he’s going to be able to pay the bank off and him saying, ‘Never, we’ll die having to pay it off,’ … that kind of really [bothered] me from a very young age.”

Hemsworth shared that he feels unresolved stress from that period of his life, and says it still impacts the work he does to this day.

“What gives me huge anxiety and evokes stress is when I’m trying to take care of too many things, too many projects. I still have these thoughts of like, it’s all going to go away if I don’t say yes to these things. I can still feel stress eating away at me, and I don’t want it to rule my life.’

“It could be killing me,” added the star of his difficulty dealing with stress and the pressures of life.

Meanwhile, Hemsworth has transformed his life ever since learning that he faces a high-risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease.

While filming a documentary series in 2022, the Thor actor discovered that he had an eight to 10 times higher chance than the average person of developing the degenerative brain disease.

The Australian actor has transformed some of his daily routines, taking some of the focus from his gruelling workouts and shifting energy toward his brain health.

In a bid to stay more focused and to de-stress, Hemsworth has been making efforts to be more mindful of his mental health needs.

“I do a lot of meditation and breath work, mostly during sauna and ice bath routines,” he told Men’s Health.

“For me, my favourite mindfulness work comes from the immersion in physical activities that allow me to be fully present and force me out of my head and into my body, in particular surfing.”

The actor continued: “I have a more consistent approach to my sleep. Try to stay off screens an hour before bed and read most nights definitely helps. In addition, focusing on not being attached to every thought and be the observer to the noise when possible, just stepping back from the internal chatter.”
