Brad Pitt let an elderly widower live on his sprawling LA estate rent-free until the man’s death at 105 years old, according to a former neighbour.

Elvira actress Cassandra Peterson said the Hollywood star, 59, was “very, very kind to the [man]” in a new interview with People.

She explained that she sold her 7700sq m property in Los Feliz, an up-market enclave of Los Angeles, to Pitt in 1994. She then bought a nearby property which she moved into, Page Six reports.

She said the actor began slowly buying up neighbouring houses, as they came up for sale.

“I think there were like 22 houses that were contiguous to the edge of the property,” the actress, 71, told People. “And every time they came up, he bought one.”

One of the properties purchased by Pitt, 59, was owned by the elderly man when he was in his early nineties.

Once the house hit the market, the actor allegedly struck a deal to let the widower continue to live in the home – rent-free – upon Pitt making the purchase.

“[This man’s] wife passed away and the husband, John, lived there. I know that Brad allowed him to live there without paying anything until he died.”

Noting the man’s triple-digit lifespan, Peterson joked that it felt like he “just kept living forever”.

“I imagine Brad was thinking, ‘Well, you know, he can live there ’til he dies, which might be any minute now.’”

Page Six has contacted Pitt’s rep for comment.

New York Postreported in March that the actor sold the Los Angeles estate for $US39 million ($A58 million) – a jump from the $US1.7 million buying price in 1994.

Pitt’s lavish add-ons to the original Los Feliz property included a skating rink, a tennis court, a swimming pool, a koi pond, a skate park, a motorcycle garage, a ballroom and a cinema.
