Darren Hayes has joined the almost 200,000 people forced to flee their homes as out of control wildfires ravage Los Angeles.

The former Savage Garden singer shared an update on Instagram, confirming he was safe – but that he feels “strangely sad and numb” watching the disaster unfold so close to his property.

“I’m so lucky my goddaughter and her folks took us in,” Hayes wrote.

“We are safe and evacuated out of precaution. The red zone is literally at the end of my street. So many of my friends have lost their homes. This is devastating. Just praying this ends soon.”

Earlier, he’d shared a harrowing image of a dark red sky.

“I’m safe from the LA fires which feels like a selfish thing to post but only doing so because of the many caring and concerned who have reached out,” Hayes said.

“This could change in an instant. I live adjacent to a mandatory evacuation zone. This was the sky near midnight last night but no fires anywhere in sight.

”I am of course devastated for what is happening and for my friends who have lost homes and all of us who live here who have seen our community burn to the ground … I feel strangely sad and numb. Unable to sleep last night because things could change in a heartbeat.”

While Hayes’ home currently appears to be safe, fellow Australian star Benjamin Rigby wasn’t so lucky. The actor, who briefly appeared on Neighbours before heading to Hollywood and landing roles in blockbusters such as Kong, Alien: Covenant and Ford v. Ferrari, revealed this week that he was among a host of celebrities and artists whose properties had been decimated.

An image posted to Rigby’s Instagram showed little more than a staircase once leading to the house remained after the flames passed through.

“My heart is absolutely and completely broken,” he wrote.

“Our home is gone.”

On Thursday, Rebel Wilson revealed her beloved cat had to be rescued from her LA home after it was also caught in the path of the devastating fires.

The Australian actress and her wife, Ramona Agruma, live in the Hollywood Hills with their two-year-old daughter, Royce.

While she didn’t specify the extent of the impact on her home, she shared an eerie picture, taken by her friend Ornela, shower the West Hollywood sky lit up in flames.

“Can not believe this,” Wilson captioned it.

“Thank you Ornela for saving our cat.”

It’s not clear whether the Pitch Perfect star and her family are currently in LA, as they were recently pictured in Australia.

At least 11 people have been killed since a series of wildfires began around the city on Thursday, with more than 10,000 structures razed.

More than 180,000 people have been forced to evacuate as authorities estimate the damage bill already exceeds $100B USD.

The Palisades, Eaton and Hurst and fires were still burning out-of-control in Los Angeles on Saturday, four days since they began ripping across the county.
