Actor Lukas Gage’s savage Perez Hilton shutdown

Perez Hilton took a potshot at an actor being “not as famous as he thinks he is” – and copped a brutal public response from the star.

Up-and-coming White Lotus actor Lukas Gage has shut down infamous gossip blogger Perez Hilton, after Hilton claimed the star is “not as famous as he thinks he is”.

Hilton today posted a tweet linking to a story on his website about Gage’s rumoured relationship with celebrity stylist Chris Appleton.

Gage and Appleton sparked speculation they’re a couple when they posted photos from a recent holiday they took together. They also walked the red carpet together at a pre-Oscars bash in Hollywood.

But Gage has also declined to speak publicly about his sexuality, telling The New York Times in a recent interview that he has “a problem with the culture of everyone needing to know everybody’s business and nothing can be sacred”.

Hilton seemed to take offence at that, linking to his coverage of Gage’s rumoured new relationship with the caption: “Somebody needs to tell this dude he’s not as famous as he thinks he is! All the #LukasGage details HERE.”

Gage soon hit back using Hilton’s own words against him, publicly replying to the controversial blogger with a diss of his own:

“Somebody needs to tell this dude that nobody has read his blog since 2009! details HERE,” he tweeted.

Gage’s star is certainly on the rise: After his small but memorable role as a hotel worker in the first season of The White Lotus, he’s starred in the Netflix hit You, the miniseries Angelyne and will soon have a recurring role in the acclaimed black comedy series Fargo.

Elsewhere in his recent New York Timesinterview, Gage revealed that an agent had dropped him because of his refusal to publicly label his sexuality.

“An agent that dropped me was like, ‘Stop dyeing your hair, stop wearing weird clothes and pick a lane: gay, bi or straight. It’s too confusing.’ I understand representation and voices that need to be heard, but I don’t want to do anything on anyone’s accord but my own,” he said. “Let me do it when I’m ready. And it’s acting. I feel like everyone should get the opportunity to play whatever they want.”
