Bobbie Jean Carter, the sister to Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter and the late Aaron Carter, has died at the age of 41.

Bobbie Jean’s death is the latest tragedy to hit the Carter family following the deaths of Aaron, who died at 34 in November 2022, and Leslie Carter, who died at 25 in January 2012.

Bobbie Jean’s mother, Jane Carter, said she was “in shock from learning of the sudden death of my daughter, Bobbie Jean, and I will need time to process the terrible reality of this happening for the third time”.

“When I am able to think clearly, I’ll release a fuller statement, but until then, I would request to be left to grieve in private,” she said.

Sibling Angel Carter reflected on the “unfair” cards her sister was dealt in life as she mourned her sudden death.

“To my older sister Bobbie, you had a great sense of humour, and a lively spirit. Growing up, I was your baby, and you were my best friend.”

Angel vaguely detailed the pain Bobbie Jean experienced as she struggled with substance abuse throughout her life.

“Life wasn’t fair to you, that I know. Sometimes, it feels like you didn’t have a shot, no matter what. Experiencing innocence instead of being burdened by trauma, pain, and suffering is incredibly important for children, particularly at such a young age,” she continued.

Angel — who also lost her twin brother, Aaron Carter, in 2022 and her sister Leslie Carter in 2012 following their own addiction battles — said she understood why they turned to drugs.

“I know why Leslie, Aaron and now you ended up in the circumstances that you did. I share that pain we experienced during our childhood and I’m sorry you didn’t have an opportunity for a better life,” she wrote.

While it’s unclear how Bobbie Jean died, Angel urged her followers to “break down barriers” and “reduce stigmas” around mental health to stop “generational dysfunction”.

“I love you BJ, you’re free now️,” Angel said.
