Brooke Shields reveals her regret over revealing she was a virgin

Brooke Shields has opened up about discussing her virginity in a 1985 interview, saying her comments “never left her alone”.

Brooke Shields wishes she hadn’t been so candid about her personal life in the mid-’80s.

Once dubbed the “most famous virgin in the world,” the Blue Lagoon star now feels she shouldn’t have publicly revealed the status of her virginity when she was 20 years old.

“I mean, I think it was, in hindsight, a bit of a mistake for me to be so open about my virginity because it never left me alone,” she said on her Now What? With Brooke Shields podcast Tuesday.

Shields, now 57, first made the admission in her 1985 book, On Your Own, which provided health and beauty advice for college-bound women

The A Castle for Christmas star clarified that despite the book being credited to her, it was actually penned by a ghostwriter after the publisher rejected her first chapter.

“I would get a lot of fan mail from kids saying, ‘Oh, my boyfriend’s pressuring me, and I don’t want to have sex. What do I do?’ My narrative was, ‘You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to,’” Shields recalled.

Despite her best efforts to help young women, the Suddenly Susan alum ultimately ended up facing “creepy” questions from men for years to come.

“I became the most famous virgin in the world. To be in the line of fire at such a young age in that way, I gained a resilience, and it set me up to be ready for anything in this industry, which can be difficult,” she shared.
