The Greater Western Sydney Giants AFL player was thrust into the spotlight last night when he claimed top honours at the Cleo event, beating a host of good-looking blokes.
“I thought I may have been in with a chance because the Giants boys were voting for me so much,” the 22-year-old said.
“But then I saw all the blokes tonight and thought I had no chance.”
Despite the big win, the single sportsman won’t be partying into the night.
“I am in training at the moment, so no drinking for me.”
The other 30 men vying for the title included Richard Wilkins’ son Christian Wilkins, Larry Emdur’s son Jye Emdur and singer Tim “Timomatic” Omaji.
On hand for the announcement at Darlinghurst bar ARQ was Fiona Falkiner, MasterChef’s Hayden Quinn, actor Nic Westaway, Big Brother winner Ryan Ginns, former Miss Universe Australia Tegan Martin and British singer and DJ Aston Merrygold.
Buntine joins fellow Bachelor of the Year alumni who include Quinn, swimmer Eamon Sullivan, actors Firass Dirani and Axle Whitehead, model Jason Dundas and radio personality Andy Lee.
