‘Oh my God’: Emma Stone appears irate at Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel’s Poor Things sex joke

Poor Things star Emma Stone didn’t seem to enjoy Jimmy Kimmel’s joke during his Oscars monologue.

Emma Stone looks unhappy with Kimmel's joke

Poor Things star and executive producer Emma Stone didn’t seem to enjoy Jimmy Kimmel’s joke alluding to the film’s many sex scenes during today’s 96th Academy Awards show ceremony.

After the carefully edited montage heralding Poor Things’ high points as a Best Picture Oscar nominee, Kimmel cracked that those were the only scenes they were allowed to show on network television.

The camera then cut to Best Actress nominee Emma Stone. While most of the crowd was laughing along, Stone turned to her husband, director Dave McCary, and mouthed, “Oh my god,” without an ounce of humour.

Some viewers believe Stone may have even said, “What a prick.”

Could it be that Emma Stone is over talking about the film’s many, many major sex scenes? Especially on a night when she’s not only nominated for her performance, but for being one of the producers on the Best Picture-nominated project.

Let’s back up and set the scene.

After a brief commercial break, the Oscars played one of their standard montages pulled together to show off each and every unique Best Picture nominee.

We watched Stone’s character dance, kiss, study, and feel the spectrum of human emotions. When the clip ended, Kimmel came out and said only a short, simple sentence.

“Those were all the parts of Poor Things that we’re allowed to show on TV,” Kimmel quipped.

While the camera operator caught Poor Things co-star Mark Ruffalo laughing along at the joke, Stone turned to her husband and visibly mouthed, “Oh my god.”

There wasn’t a blush or smile or a giggle. Indeed, the usually ebullient star looked down right perturbed.

Kimmel’s joke was clearly a reference to the explicit sex scenes Stone has spent an entire Awards Season explaining weren’t as challenging as capturing a nubile mind in a grown woman’s body.

Based on her negative reaction to Kimmel’s joke, Stone is officially over the Poor Things sex scene discourse.
