It was a promise he never expected to follow through on.
Larry Emdur has been tattooed live on television after winning Australian television’s highest honour, and now has his fellow Gold Logie nominees’ initials inked on his bottom.
JM, AL, RI, TA, SK, AK will forever remain on Emdur’s behind, representing Julia Morris, Andy Lee, Robert Irwin, Tony Armstrong, Sonia Kruger and Asher Keddie.
It came after Emdur’s triumphant Gold Logie win at the 64th annual awards on Sunday night.
“Is this permanent,” he said. “Can I just tell you one thing, that love bite there, it is actually from Ant Middleton.”
Bondi Ink artist Zach Spiros had the honour of tattooing the 59-year-old Aussie TV icon.
Usually calm and confident on camera, Emdur appeared slightly uncomfortable as he worried how much of his skin viewers could see.
Co-host Kylie Gillies was doubled over laughing. The pair have hosted the show together for 17 years.
“In 17 years I’ve never seen you from this angle,” she said, Emdur chiming in: “Kylie comes over and says, it is too close to your crack. After 17 years, this is where our relationship ends.”
The nominee initials were framed by a Logie Award.
Meanwhile, it was Emdur’s first ever nomination in a 40 year career.
Not only did he win Gold but also the Silver Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter.
Earlier, Emdur confirmed that would honour his pre-victory promise to get his bum tattooed if he took home TV’s top prize.
Emdur told his long-time co-host Gillies that his comment that he would get his fellow nominees’ initials inked on his bottom had initially been a throwaway line, but that he was now going to go through with the body art on Monday’s episode of The Morning Show.
“As you know, I’m a man of my bum,” he joked. “No, I’m a man of my word. Today, upon this very program, I am going to get the nominees’ initials, I’ve chosen the right cheek.
“The entire crew has been involved in the design ... everyone’s decided where it should go and how it should look.”
Emdur laughed as he revealed his mother had texted him to ask him what time the tattooing would air as she wanted to “put it up on the big screen in the retirement village”.
Earlier, Emdur thanked his long-running co-host for running a “fierce” campaign to help him seal his Gold Logie victory.
“You drove that campaign bus right into the foyer of the casino last night,” Emdur said.
“You are Mr Television,” Gillies said as an emotional Emdur thanked her.
He joked that he had a tattoo planned for Gillies as well.
EMDUR BREAKS LOGIES DROUGHT
Emdur, host of The Morning Show and The Chase, broke his awards drought by taking out both the Gold Logie and the Most Popular Presenter awards at the 2024 TV Week Logie Awards in Sydney.
After a relentless campaign for voters on Seven, the popular presenter took out the coveted Gold statue from favourites including I’m A Celebrity host Robert Irwin and ABC star Tony Armstrong.
The freshly minted Gold Logie winner joked he had been the “most axed man in television” over his 40-year career and was proud that it was now urban slang to say you were going on a “Larry Emdur” if you were out on a bender.
Emdur, who also won the Silver Logie for Most Popular Presenter, pledged to have his fellow nominees’ names tattooed on his bottom if he won.
“Shit I just remembered I did say if I won this during the week, did I?” he laughed.
“I was so convinced that I wasn’t going to win this that I said that if I did win it, I would have all the nominees’ initials tattooed on my arse live tomorrow (Monday) morning.”
Addressing wife Sylvie, he continued: “I know we had some fancy hotel planned but looks like I’ll be doing squats all night getting ready.”
Emdur, 59, has co-hosted Seven’s The Morning Show on Seven for 17 years alongside Kylie Gillies.
He is also host of gameshow The Chase and has been a fixture on Australian television since 1989 when he was at the helm of Family Double Dare.
His other credits include The Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune, It Takes Two and Celebrity Dog School.
“I love being in TV ... I’ve never done anything else and I’ve never wanted to do anything else,” he said.
“Whether it’s sitting on The Morning Show couch interviewing Lindy Klim who has invented a new product which is a face mask for vulvas or a 150kg truck driver who has won on The Price Is Right, dry humping me, being the most axed man in television, and there have been some terrible things, plenty of times I’ve had to think, do I look right, am I right for this?”
Emdur meanwhile had his fellow nominees names embroidered inside his suit jacket pocket.
He thanked his work wife, Gillies, as well as Seven executives Sarah Stinson and Chloe Flynn.
“My TV wife, Kylie Gillies, thank you for absolutely everything. We clicked 17 years ago and we never unclicked,” Emdur said.
“To my real family, my mum and my two sisters, I love you so much, to my late dad, who on the first day going to Channel 7 he said, just be nice to everyone. That was 40 years ago and I remember it to this day. After a while he said, hey how it is going, and I said Dad, there are so many assholes in this business.”
Emdur said his children, who had not watched free-to-air TV for about 15 years, were proud of him.
“Apparently it’s rhyming slang now that if you’re going on a bender, you’re going on a Larry Emdur, so they’re proud of me for that.
In closing he said: “Let’s get on a Larry Emdur everyone.”
YOUNG STAR STOLE AUSTRALIA’S HEART
Boy Swallows Universe star Felix Cameron stole Australia’s heart when he broke down when accepting the Best New Talent.
The 15-year-old, who shines in the Australian drama series inspired by Trent Dalton’s best-selling novel, choked up as he thanked his parents and brother and sister.
He recovered his emotions to thank his drama teacher Nadia Towns.
“I couldn’t have done it without you,” he says.
“She had a saying, that we were climbing a mountain. She never clarified whether it was Everest or the Dandenongs, but I think we got there.”
Cameron picked up his second Logie for Best Lead Actor in a Drama for the show.
In accepting his award, he said: “Actually, the last award that I won before tonight was, um, Student of the Week in grade five. So ..this is quite a big deal.”
“This was such a team effort...and each week an extraordinary actor from Hollywood, they’d fly in and I’d get to work with them and it was an amazing experience.
“But I think the thing that really was the best for me was being able to work with all the cast and crew, from make-up, who always brightened my day to wardrobe, to the ADs and everyone in between, thank you for the most amazing experience of my life.”
Cameron came on after a bizarre skit where Andy Lee and Stephen Curry were dressed up at Deadpool and Wolverine.
Netflix’s Boy Swallows Universe stars were the early winners of the 2024 Logies with Sophie Wilde claiming Best Supporting Actress and Bryan Brown the award for Best Supporting Actor.
BOY SWALLOW UNIVERSE AUTHOR’S NEXT TV ADAPTATION
Boy Swallows Universe author Trent Dalton and producer Troy Lum confirmed a TV adaptation of Dalton’s most recent book, Lola In The Mirror has been confirmed.
“I can’t say much, but it’s coming,” Lum said. Lola In The Mirror is Dalton’s third novel and tells the story of a girl and her mother who have been on the run for sixteen years. It is [set] in Brisbane in the 1980s.
After winning the Logie, Dalton said: “The most real thing was the stuff with my mum. I really wanted to thank my mum up there (accepting Logie) that poor woman for 6 years has had to hear her son sort of vaguely dodge questions about her 1980s.
“She would have been watching this tonight just weeping with pride. She was so low at times and stayed alive because she had an absurd notion that one day one of her sons might do something sticking around for. This freaking night was worth sticking around for.
“(The show) is absolutely 50/50 (of my life). Eli Bell played by Felix did everything I wish I could have done when I was as a young kid.
“The secret room was absolutely real. It still exists in Ipswich Queensland. I had a thing with my brothers where we found this secret room from the heroin dealer that my mother was in love with and all we found was a red telephone. A lot of my dreaming was of that and what turned into a book because I wanted to find out who was on the telephone.”
LOGIES HOST SAM PANG ROASTS SEVEN
The people’s choice for Logies host Sam Pang went straight for the elephant in the room with his opening monologue, skewering the Seven network, his employer and broadcaster of the awards.
“Firstly, Channel 7, well, I’m just letting you all know I’m going to say whatever I want tonight,” he said.
“I stand before you safe in the knowledge that whatever I say, this network will defend me in court. And with their impeccable record in defamation cases over the last 12 months I reckon I’ll be fine.
“Full disclosure; I’m not getting paid by Channel Seven tonight. Instead, for the next 12 months, they’re paying my rent. Which is handy as they’ll know what address to send the Thai masseuse to.”
CELIA PACQUOLA DROPS F-BOMB ON SEVEN
After incorrectly announcing the Best Drama category as Best Lead Actor, comedian Celia Pacquloa told the room: “Someone at Channel Seven has f***ed me.”

RAYGUN’S SPECIAL LOGIES MESSAGE
One of the biggest surprises of the Logies was Pang’s introduction of a world exclusive message from controversial breakdancing Olympian, Rachael “Raygun” Gunn.
“Hello, Australia, Raygun here,” the breakdancer said in a pre-recorded video.
“I just want to say congrats to all the Logie nominees and best of luck tonight.
“Please feel free to pull out one of my signature moves in celebration. Have fun and look after each other.”
SEBASTIAN, MAUBOY PAY TRIBUTE TO JOHN FARNHAM
One of the night’s more joyous moments came when Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy fronted the Farnham Band to pay tribute to national music treasure John Farnham, performing Burn for You and a rousing rendition of his signature hit You’re The Voice.
The tribute was watched by Farnham’s family, including sons Robert and James, and an emotional Gaynor Wheatley, whose late husband Glenn, was behind the making of the documentary.
GIBNEY INDUCTED INTO LOGIE HALL OF FAME
Struggling with crippling anxiety and body dysmorphia, when Rebecca Gibney stepped on set of her breakthrough show co-star Maurie Fields gave her advice that has stayed with her nearly four decades.
Just the fourth woman ever inducted into the TV Week Logie Hall of Fame, Gibney said: “It was on the set of ‘The Flying Doctors’ where I learnt one of my biggest lessons from the legendary late great actor Maurie Fields.
She continued: “I asked him one day, ‘what’s the secret of success in this business?’ He said and I quote, ‘It’s pretty simple love – just show up on time, know your lines, and don’t be a d**k’. It’s a motto that I’ve taken on to every job ever since.”
She said “I’m not planning on retiring anytime soon” ahead of receiving the honour.
BLUEY WINS LOGIE
Bluey was a popular winner for Best Children’s Program after being robbed last year.
Daley Pearson, the Executive Producer of Bluey said: “I don’t think we expected it (to win) this year. We were at table 56 so we were a long way from the stage so it was very surprising.
“We want Bluey to be a forever show. We want it to be Winnie the Pooh,” Pearson said.
“It is about kids seeing reflections of themselves on TV and something they can relate to. We grew up with American shows and there was something in Australia…maybe because of financing, there was always an American or Canadian kid. Now with the support we have had from Screen Australia and the ABC … because of that we had creative control. Now Australian kids have stories that reflect them.”
“For season four, I would love to get any premier league players. Anyone from Chelsea, if you want to come and be on Bluey ... David Attenborough is the goal,” Bluey production manager Rhiannon Steffensen said.
