What James Franco blocked Tommy Wiseau from saying during Golden Globes speech

JAMES Franco bizarrely blocked what could have been one of the most headline-grabbing moments of the Golden Globes.

JAMES Franco blocked one of the few unscripted moments at yesterday’s Golden Globes award ceremony, elbowing oddball Tommy Wiseau out of the way as the subject of his film reached for the microphone.

The awkward moment happened as Franco accepted his award for best lead actor in a motion picture, comedy or musical for his portrayal of Wiseau in The Disaster Artist.

Wiseau infamously wrote, directed, produced and starred in the 2003 independent film The Room, considered one of the worst movies ever made.

Franco paid tribute to the man he portrayed in his speech, explaining that it was being shut-out of the Golden Globes that originally sparked Wiseau’s inspiration to make the so-bad-it’s-good film.

“Nineteen years ago he was stuck in traffic, from the Golden Globes, he said to his best friend Greg, ‘Golden Globes, so what, I’m not invited. I know they don’t want me, guy with accent, long hair, so I show them. I don’t wait for Hollywood, I make my own movie.’”

Franco said he was “very happy to share this moment with him today”.

Not entirely — as Franco blocked the famously unpredictable Wiseau from having his moment at the microphone. Speaking to the LA Times after the event, Wiseau insisted his speech would’ve been both brief and uncontroversial. Here’s what he says he had wanted to say: “If a lot of people loved each other, the world would be a better place to live. See The Room, have fun, and enjoy life. The American Dream is alive, and it’s real.”

Despite being denied what will surely be his only moment of glory on the Golden Globes stage, Wiseau praised the actor who played him.

“He did such a great job, talking as a director and an actor. I think he make a big effort, which sometimes from the outside is extremely difficult to understand that. He did good with accent. His brother Dave did good as well. They really studied character. But he doesn’t know how to throw football, that’s for sure!”

Others haven’t been so full of praise — actor Ally Sheedy slammed Franco in a series of tweets after his win.

Her tweets garnered social media attention and were deleted after outlets like Vanity Fair and E! News began reporting that Sheedy had called out Franco. One tweet read: “James Franco just won. Please never ever ask me why I left the film/TV business.”
