Aussie rock icon Jimmy Barnes has joined the white shoe brigade and we love it!

AN Aussie rock icon joins the white shoe brigade; macaroons go ‘fashion’ and Mambo grows up — some of the morsels Melissa Hoyer found behind celebrity lines.

WHEN a bona fide Aussie rock icon wears them, there’s something going on.

Jimmy Barnes’ sartorial splendour was in fine form at the extremely worthy Cure Brain Cancer annual event where he joined fellow hard-hitters in helping raise awareness for one of cancer’s worst killers.

White shoes have certainly made their way back onto fashion racks (yes, they are ‘on-trend’ as those fluent fashionese may say) but when you're a total classic and legend like Mr J Barnes, who needs a trend?

Jimmy was happy to lend his weight to event with guests including Cure Brain Cancer’s Founder Charlie Teo along with his family, Holly Brisley, Johanna Johnson, Senator Catryna Bilyk and Marcella Zemanek.

Brain cancer kills more children than any other disease in Australia and Cure Brain Cancer is the largest dedicated fundraiser for brain cancer research in the country, with a mission to increase five-year survival to 50 per cent within 10 years.

The Foundation’s Head of Research Michelle Stewart spoke about the radical and disruptive approach they are taking to achieve this, working collaborating with global partners to find innovative ways to accelerate new treatments to patients. Great stuff all around.

HIP HOORAY MAMBO

Following the success of the Mambo 30 Years of Shelf-Indulgence exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria last year (the largest number of attendees to ever walk through the Ian Potter Centre), the Aussie surf and art-wear brand opened its exhibition in Sydney.

At the new AMBUSH Gallery in Central Park (home to those famous vertical garden apartments) HG Nelson hosted a brilliant speaking job — he is yet another Aussie legend we can’t get enough of.

Guests included Angus Kingsmill; legendary Mambo artist Reg Mombassa, Mambo’s original founder Dare Jennings and creative director/copywriter and Mambo collector Wayne Golding, who curated the exhibition.

The exhibition features original artwork, posters, surfboards, inflatables, in-store display units, and a 30-year timeline, plus interviews with original artists and various other cast members.

It also shows artworks that were not previously shown in the Melbourne exhibit along with examples of developmental work, most of which are being exhibited for the first time.

A must see!

MMMM. VERY DELICIOUS ...

Thedelicioustitle is celebrating a re-energised look, feel and vibe.

The very cool and subterranean Subcontinental bar in Surry Hills played host to a foodie-oriented crowd with familiar faces like Vogue Living’s Neale Whitaker and his partner David Novak-Piper, Paddock to Plate’s Matt Moran, occasional MasterChef Darren Robertson and fiance Magdalena Roze. The Bridge Room’s Ross Lusted, Made in Ialy’s Silvia Colloca and Mediaweek’s James Manning were also spotted.

Guests left the party laden with a chunky gift bags that had Burt’s Bee’s towelettes and lip balm, Circa Home candles, a bottle of Silver Patrón tequila, Falksalt Crystal Flakes and Lindt chocolate. Delicious indeed.

MASERATI AND WOMEN: A PERFECT MATCH

International Women’s Day around the world seems to get bigger and bigger each year (it’s more like a week than a day these days) and this year it culminated in a brilliant event hosted by the Sydney Opera House and the very fast car crew, Maserati.

Guest speaker and author of Overwhelmed, Brigid Schulte, gave out some wise words particularly in the quest for so many women to ‘do it’ and ‘have it all’.

And the moral of the day? That not one of us is perfect and we just need to work out our own way, or our own blueprint, in getting things done.

LADUREE MACAROONS FIND FASHION

There is an enduring power of a ‘macaroon’ which makes you feel glad they are not flash-in-the-pan fad like the ‘cronut’.

Maybe it’s because they are just mighty delectable and kind of pretty, too.

The director of Ladurée Australia, Jonathan Alphandery opened Australia’s first stand-alone Ladurée store on Queen Street, in Sydney’s Woollahra, and has just announced the first ‘designer’ macaroon with Italian design house Pucci.

Jonathan had been hoping to open a Ladurée store since he moved to Australia from France in 2009. He had been blown away by the shop fitting of ‘designer’ butcher store Victor Churchill so he and his team worked incredibly hard to bring this little piece of Paris to that same Sydney area.

Mr Alphandery told of his Pucci plans at a recent soiree that saw guests sip Moët & Chandon Champagne and munch into macaroons, including the coveted gold-leaf macaroon and Australia’s most popular flavour — the salted caramel variety.

Key guests in macaroon mode included John Symond and Amber Keating, Skye Leckie, Ellie Aitkin, Seven’s Sarah Cumming, Deborah Symond, Stephen Symond and Ed Smith, Marly Boyd, Kerrie Hess, Kirsten and Jean Marc Carriol and Karin Upton-Baker.
