Triple J radio meltdown

National ABC radio stations including Triple J and Radio National suffered major technical issues this morning, confusing listeners around the country.

For 90 minutes the stations broadcast heavily distorted audio before the issue was fixed just before 8am AEDT.

It’s believed the issue affected Triple J, Double J, ABC Classic, Radio National, ABC Sydney and News Radio.

Listeners around Australia took to social media to vent about the issue.

When the signal finally returned to normal, Triple J breakfast host Bryce Mills joyfully announced on air: “I think we’re back! I think we’re there! I think the app’s fixed as well. I think the whole signal might be finally back.”

He continued: “It’s been an hour and a half of just absolute madness. I’m pretty sure the BBC started playing again for some reason.

“Thank you for bearing with us. I don’t know how it was fixed, I wasn’t part of the solution, we just had to sit here and press buttons. We don’t know how it even started.”

In a statement to news.com.au, an ABC spokesperson said: “We are aware of technical issues with ABC Radio this morning. Services are in the process of being restored and we apologise for any inconvenience.”
