It’s the end of an era for the beloved Hughesy, Ed and Erin breakfast show.

Dave Hughes doesn’t think being cryogenically frozen is ‘worth it’

Sydney’s 104.1 2DayFM has announced the end of the beloved Hughesy, Ed and Erin breakfast show.

In a statement on Wednesday afternoon, radio stars David “Hughesy” Hughes, Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan announced the immediate end of the popular morning show that has entertained listeners since 2020.

“We’ve loved our time together on 2DayFM Breakfast, however, due to some of our families living in different cities we are unable to commit to 2025, so with a heavy heart we are moving aside so 2DayFM can find the team to take them forward in Breakfast,” the hosts said in a joint statement.

“We are so grateful to Sydney for their support, and to double the number of listeners in three years is something we are immensely proud of, and we will miss each and every one of them.”

For the remainder of 2024, the Hit Network’s Jimmy Smith and Nath Roye from The Jimmy and Nath Show from the night show will temporarily move into the Breakfast timeslot.

Southern Cross Austereo chief content officer Dave Cameron said changes were coming to the breakfast show in 2025.

“As we look to 2025, we are preparing for a change for the 2DayFM Sydney Breakfast show and will make further announcements in due course,” he said.

The breakfast show generated numerous news-making headlines during the crew’s 2020-2024 stint, including an emotional segment where Hughesy spoke about the health struggles of his mother Carmel on-air.

“It’s been a tough couple of weeks,” he told listeners, shortly before her passing in October 2023.

“She’s still with us, but it won’t be long. She’s a beautiful woman who’s been a great matriarch of the family, and we’re all around her at the moment.”

In a lighter moment that encapsulated the chemistry between the crew, Erin revealed to a shocked Hughesy she once ordered Uber Eats six times in one day, starting off with an early morning sausage and egg McMuffin.

“I’m not a big people person, I’m a bit of a loner by nature,” Erin said.

“Yeah but you’re not Meghan Markle. You’re not getting papped at the front gate,” Hughesy replied.

Sydney’s 104.1 2DayFM is a part of SCA’s Hit Network, which Australia’s largest collection of radio broadcasters across metropolitan and regional areas.

Hit targets the 25-54 demographic and boasts popular personalities including Carrie Bickmore, Tommy Little, Fifi Box, Brendan Fevola, Nick Cody, Abby Coleman and Matty Acton on its rolls.
