ST JOSEPH'S College principal Nicholas Lynch is proud of the school's 2018 Year 12 cohort and their effort towards the school's community.

The school celebrated its annual awards night on Tuesday night at the school's MacKillop Centre.

Mr Lynch said he and the faculty of the school were constantly challenging the students to look out for each other.

"Caring for one another is what strong communities do," Mr Lynch said.

"The quality of any community can be measured by the care it provides for its weakest members.''

Mr Lynch said he had seen many attempts to rid school yards of bullying but didn't focus on building a community.

"Community is a place where we learn to value and honour people, even if we don't agree or get on well with them," Mr Lynch said.

"Community above all is the place where we respect and celebrate our differences."
