He’s fixing the budget, rescuing astronauts and saving the planet.
Look, up in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane?
No! It’s Super-Elon.
But despite all Elon Musk is achieving, the richest man on Earth is down in the dumps.
And who can blame him, considering the death threats, arson attacks against his businesses, feral protests and casual defamation against him every day.
Donald Trump tried buying one of his Tesla electric cars this week to cheer up his favourite tech support guy, but Musk still looks sad.
He seemed to choke up during an interview with Larry Kudlow for Fox Business last week when asked how he said he was juggling all his other businesses, such as Tesla, SpaceX and X, with his new responsibility of auditing federal government spending.
“With great difficulty,” he said, pausing and sighing heavily.
“Frankly, I can’t believe I’m here doing this,” he told the empathetic Kudlow, contemplating how his life has been up-ended since he decided to back Trump during the campaign and then work for free to root out “waste, fraud and abuse” in the federal government.
“But we’ve got this enormous federal budget deficit … Our interest payments are higher than our Defense Department budget. That was the real wake-up call for me [seeing] that was only growing over time, which meant that if we didn’t do something about this, then there won’t be any money for anything … I just don’t want America to go bankrupt.”
For the once virulently anti-Trump darling of the liberal elites, it is a heroic patriotic mission, and one that appeals to his almost childlike sense of order and justice.
He has said that it was Trump’s superhero-style fist pump after he was almost killed by an assassin’s bullet in Butler, Pa., that convinced him to join “Dark MAGA.”
But things soured once he started to apply his brilliant mind to government spending through DOGE, the playfully named “Department of Government Efficiency.”
Shares in Tesla tanked this week, his social-media firm X was hit with a cyber attack, and his net worth suffered an 11-figure drop.
But he’s vowed to stay helping Trump for another year.
Most Americans love that he and his team of high-IQ whiz kids are exposing outrageous fraud and waste, such as $1.5 million for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs in Serbia, $70,000 for a DEI musical in Ireland, $47,000 for a transgender opera in Colombia, $32,000 for a transgender comic book in Peru, and $2 million for sex changes in Guatemala.
The public isn’t buying the relentlessly anti-Musk, anti-DOGE propaganda, according to recent polls.
In fact, a CBS/YouGov poll last week was so positive that CNN pollmeister Harry Enten declared it “shocking” because it showed a majority of Americans support DOGE’s cuts to federal government spending.
Another poll, the Washington Post/IPSOS poll found 42% believe that DOGE is cutting “wasteful” spending while only 36% believe that the department is cutting “necessary programs.”
But, because Musk’s proposed cuts go to the heart of Democrats’ secret funding of their street militias and most nefarious activities, a vicious full-court press is being applied to try to break Musk.
The Resistance has decided that Trump is impervious to their attacks, so they are coming after Musk just as hard, trying to destroy his businesses and his peace of mind.
Don’t believe haters
A Cabinet meeting last week portrayed as a showdown between Musk and Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been used to claim that DOGE is on thin ice and that Musk’s relationship with Trump is in tatters.
But anyone who sees the president and his tech support guy together sees a genuine respect and rapport.
Despite his exuberant temperament, Musk never describes himself as anything but “tech support” — offering suggestions to the Cabinet of where they can usefully trim fat.
If they choose not to, they can answer to the public.
Some of the suggested cuts may not be prudent, but at least government spending is under the microscope at last. That’s a cause for celebration. It’s our money, after all.
DOGE is transparent about its findings, which we can all see in handy chart form on its website doge.gov.
Estimated savings found so far are $105 billion from a combination of “asset sales, contract/lease cancellations and renegotiations, fraud and improper payment deletion, grant cancellations, interest savings, programmatic changes, regulatory savings and workforce reductions.”
The amount saved per taxpayer so far is $652.17, DOGE claims.
Musk says he’s confident he will reach $1 trillion in savings, and Trump mused last month about giving some of that money back to taxpayers in the form of a DOGE dividend check.
That would be a nice little political sweetener for the midterm elections.
Aside from politics, DOGE has found epic waste on DEI programs alone.
The numbers are simply staggering.
Nobody who cares about taxpayer money would be throwing it away on such a frivolous waste of time.
We’ve heard of the tens of millions saved by axing DEI programs that USAID was exporting worldwide — $28 million in Burma, for instance.
But that’s the tip of the iceberg.
Musk, with his brain trust and intense work ethic, is the only person in history able to tackle the leviathan.
Trump is the only president savvy and audacious enough to empower him.
History will hail Elon Musk as the real-life superhero he is, even if narcs on Earth try to destroy him.
