Chelsea Clinton paid $85,000 for an hour’s work — and she was the bargain option

SHE was blasted over her cushy “fake” job and earning “an insane amount to do almost nothing”. Her new gig’s even better.

THE Clinton family doesn’t come cheap.

Hillary Clinton’s name initially came to mind when the University of Missouri at Kansas City was looking for an influential celebrity to speak at a power luncheon celebrating the opening of a women’s hall of fame earlier this year — until they saw her $350,000 appearance fee.

The public university was not prepared to shell out the six-figure fee Clinton, 67, demanded so they turned to the more economical option in the family: her daughter, Chelsea.

The university paid the former first daughter $85,000 for the short appearance, which only amounted to about an hour on campus.

Details of Clinton’s requirements for the event were obtained by The Washington Post under Missouri public record laws and show the 35-year-old’s desire to maintain tight control over the visit.

“She negotiated to speak for 10 minutes, participate in a 20-minute moderated question-and-answer session and spend a half-hour posing for photos with VIPs,” said John Martellaro, a spokesman for the university. “She requested a certain type of chair for her comfort and a set amount of time.”

According to Martellaro, the fee was paid using private donations and the 1,100 tickets sold out quickly at $45 each.

A list released in May by The Clinton Foundation indicated the speaking fees commanded by Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton have brought in as much as $33 million for The Clinton Foundation over the years.

Ms Clinton recently quit her job as a reporter for TV network NBC, a position blasted as “fake” and cushy by the US media.

She was made a “special correspondent” by the network in 2011, conducted “feel good” interviews for an annual salary of $780,000 a year, or as some commentators dubbed it “an insane amount of money to do almost nothing.”

She resigned from the post in August last year ahead of the birth of her first child.
