Aussies have been left stunned after a doctor revealed how much he money actually brings in each year, with social media users branding it “criminal”.

Aussies have been left stunned after a doctor revealed his wage, with many claiming the figure is too “low” considering the skills and amount of study the career requires.

A young doctor working in the neurosurgical department at the Royal Brisbane Hospital was stopped in the street and asked about his job, revealing is salary in the process.

The salaries of everyday Aussies are being revealed rapidly because of job-matching app, Getahead.

It works like Tinder, but instead of matching with potential love interests, Aussies can match with potential employers just by swiping.

In this case, the young doctor shared that his base salary is $104,000, but that doesn’t include overtime.

Getting to that six-figure salary certainly wasn’t an easy road, though. The doctor explained that he is from the UK and went straight to medical school after high school.

He then outlined the rigorous amount of studying involved in becoming a doctor.

His undergraduate year took him five years, followed by a Master’s degree and two years of foundation training before he came to Australia to work as a doctor.

“It is hard work, I won’t lie, but it is pretty rewarding. Like there’s so many avenues you can go down,” he said.

The doctor noted that long-term pay progression is “good” and, right now, he is working 12 hour shifts five days a week.

He said one of the hardest things about the profession is learning to manage your time and care for yourself.

He said you need to focus on “looking after yourself” because it is a “hard job”, noting the importance of being able to leave “work at work” when you clock out for the day.

Online people were stunned by his wage.

“$104,000 with a Master’s?” one asked, while another pointed out that doctors can end up making over $200,000.

“That is so low? I’m a teacher on $120,000 and struggling, which is why I do extra jobs in the evening,” another revealed.

Someone else chimed in, revealing their disbelief over the doctor’s wage, claiming “there is no way it is that”, while another called the salary “crazy” low.

One person went as far as to brand the salary “criminal” and claimed the doctor should be paid double, but another argued that “overtime” pay is where doctors make a bank.

According to job search platform SEEK, the average salary for a doctor in Australia ranges between $90,000 and $110,000.

Once a doctors specialise, though, they can earn more. For instance, general practitioners, on average, earn between $215,000 and $235,000 a year.

According to Medrecruit, a company that helps match people in the medical profession with jobs, a surgeon in Australia can expect to earn above $300,000.
