Uva Wine Bar to open in CBD, offering boutique wines in cosy setting

The city’s newest wine bar aims to be a cosy place where people can gather after dinner, wind down and hear each other talk.

THE city will soon be home to a new wine bar, offering boutique wines not already available in Toowoomba.

Uva Wine Bar will open on Friday and aims to be a cosy place where people can gather after dinner, wind down and hear each other talk.

Katrina Costigan is behind the idea and said it came to her after chatting with friends about how there weren’t many places that offered diners somewhere quiet and inviting after dinner.

“As I enjoy wine I thought this would be a great opportunity to hone in on this market,” she said.

“The idea is that instead of travelling to Brisbane to enjoy great wine you can come to Uva.

“We offer a great selection of international and Australian wines, also Corivin wines which is quite exclusive, as well as unique and local gins, including Pechey Homestead gin, whiskeys from across the world and some craft beer.”

It will also offer a selection of cheeses, cured meat plates, pate and crusty bread and mixed olives with plans down the track to offer oyster and prawn afternoons and other tapas.

Uva is opening at Walton Stores at the former home of Full of Life, which closed last year.

Ms Costigan said she chose the venue because it had the atmosphere and ambience she was searching for.

“I fell in love with this place soon as I walked in, with the high pressed metal ceilings and bi-fold windows. The laneway just adds an extra element to the atmosphere,” she said.

“You certainly can see yourself enjoying a wine out there.

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone into our little venue.

“We do have Covid restrictions in place for now, but as these change so will our capacity.

“The support from friends and family has been enormous and I can see we will have a great reception when we open on Friday.”

Uva Wine Bar will be open from Wednesday to Saturday from 4pm to midnight and Sunday from 3pm until late.
