Toowoomba’s Wagner family makes new Rich 250 list by The Australian, with net worth estimated at $1.01b

One of Toowoomba’s most prominent families has made The Australian’s Rich 250 list, one of 11 Queenslanders included on it.

Toowoomba’s Wagner family has been named one of Queensland’s wealthiest people with a combined wealth of more than $1b, according to The Australian’s Rich 250 list.

Brothers Denis, John, Neill and Joe Wagner came in at number 11 among Queensland billionaires, with the newspaper estimating the family’s worth at $1.01b.

Mining magnate and failed politician Clive Palmer was the Sunshine State’s richest with an estimated net worth of $9.76b, while the annual list also includes Queenslanders like Bruce Mathieson, Reg Rowe, John van Lieshout and Sam Chong.

Wagners became publicly listed on the Australian in late 2017 and the company now has a market capitalisation of more than $354 million.

The brothers also own Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport and the Wellcamp Business Park through the privately-owned Wagner Corp.

Denis Wagner, who chairs the publicly listed entity, declined to comment on the list but said the construction materials company held a strong international outlook for 2021.

“We’re very happy with how it’s going — we’ve just sent out first batch of crossarms to Oman, and the US is starting to ramp up,” he said.

“We’ve been through the council planning process for the (composite fibre technology) manufacturing facility at Fort Worth in Texas.

“(The council process) was very seamless, the council is very proactive and they were very supportive of it.”

The overall wealth of Australia’s richest 250 individuals and family groups rose from $377 billion this time last year to $470 billion today.
