Toowoomba pub sold to 'larger-than-life character'

A TOOWOOMBA hotel has officially sold to a well-known and award-winning hotelier.

TOOWOOMBA'S Stock Exchange Hotel has officially sold to a well-known and award-winning hotelier.

Officially listed as the Stock Hotel, the Harristown venue was sold by Brisbane-based company the Hakfoort Group pending settlement.

CEO Albert Hakfoort wouldn't reveal the name of the buyer, but said he was a "larger-than-life character" with plenty of experience in hotels across Queensland.

Ray White Hotels investment agent Christian Tsalikis, who brokered the deal, was also hesitant to name the new owner or the final price but said it would be revealed within two weeks.

RP Data shows the 3627sq m property was sold on February 7.

Hakfoort Group bought the hotel in 2002 for $1.1 million, while last year's land valuations have the unimproved site value at $850,000.

The sale leaves the company with just three hotels in Toowoomba, including the soon-to-be refurbished Burke and Wills in the CBD, the Newtown Hotel and the Gowrie Road Hotel.
