Two of Toowoomba’s more experienced criminal lawyers have joined forces to form the Darling Downs’ latest law firm.

Brad Skuse and Claire Graham are well known legal practitioners and each has been involved in some of Toowoomba’s highest profile court cases.

Now, Mr Skuse’s David Burns Lawyers firm will merge with Ms Graham’s Peters Criminal Lawyers to form Skuse Graham Criminal Lawyers.

“We are thrilled to be able to combine forces, experience and talented staff to create a firm that has greater capacity to deliver quality legal services to a diverse and ever growing base of clients,” Mr Skuse said.

“With such a huge geographical area covered by our local courts, we are committed to ensuring the highest standard of legal representation and expertise are available to those who need it regardless of their postcode.”

Australia's Court System

Mr Skuse was admitted as a lawyer 15 years ago having started his criminal justice career in the courts in 1987 where he remained until 2009.

In that time he worked in a broad spectrum of roles including as Acting Magistrate.

Upon leaving the courts, he started practising as a criminal lawyer in Toowoomba and has spent 11 of those with David Burns Lawyers, seven years as the firm’s principal.

Ms Graham has been a lawyer for 10 years and has worked in a variety of areas of law across Brisbane, Northern Territory and the Darling Downs until focusing on criminal law from 2006.

After a year at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and nine years with a criminal law firm in Toowoomba, Ms Graham became the principal of her own firm, Peters Criminal Lawyers, at Dalby in 2019.

Skuse Graham Lawyers will practice in criminal and traffic law in all court jurisdictions and will have offices in Toowoomba, Dalby and Warwick.

“We will be working in courts in Toowoomba, Oakey, Dalby, Chinchilla, Warwick, Stanthorpe, Goondiwindi, Inglewood and surrounds,” Ms Graham said.

“We will also represent clients in every court from Cunnamulla and Charleville, St George to Gatton, Ipswich, Brisbane and Beenleigh to Harvey Bay and Maroochydore.

“We practice everywhere – including the occasional matter in northern New South Wales.”

The firm’s head office will be at 120 Herries Street, a renovated Queensland classic known as Winton which was originally built as a family home in the mid 1890s.
