Former Bonza trainer Kellie Banditt named new Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport general manager

After spending the past two years without one, Toowoomba’s Wellcamp Airport has named a new general manager. And her experience comes at a crucial time for the terminal.

Australia’s newest airport has officially appointed a new general manager, several years after her predecessor left.

Experienced airline and airport executive Kellie Banditt has been named the new head of Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport by its owner Wagner Corporation.

Ms Banditt, who has worked for RACQ, Helloworld and at the Mackay Airport, was part of the original team that founded new low-cost airline Bonza — a carrier that is about to start flights in and out of Toowoomba.

Her appointment comes about two years after previous GM Robert Kasch departed the airport.

Ms Banditt said she was excited by Wellcamp Airport’s potential as a “key player” in the aviation industry.

“The airport has quickly established itself as a key player in the aviation industry, and I am excited to help build on its success,” she said.

“The Bonza partnership is a golden opportunity not only to bring tourism to Toowoomba and neighbouring regions, but it provides the local community here an opportunity to get back, connect and travel to some amazing destinations while not breaking the bank.

“The new routes will also provide the opportunity to showcase Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport as the world-class airport that it is and the types of aircraft that it can cater for commercially.”

Wellcamp is a Bonza place to be

Ms Banditt said the advent of Bonza, which will start running planes in and out of Wellcamp within weeks, would not affect the airport’s existing carriers.

“We’ll see an increase in schedules which will result in further opportunities not only for leisure and business travellers, but also for commercial partnerships as well,” she said.

“This growth will help position Toowoomba, and its surrounding regions, as a destination and not just a gateway or thoroughfare.”

Wagner Corporation general manager Damian Bell said Ms Banditt would oversee terminal management, developing new commercial opportunities and stakeholder engagement.

“Her extensive experience and proven track record in the aviation industry make her the ideal candidate to lead the airport into its next phase of growth,” he said.

Wagner Corporation director Denis Wagner was contacted for comment.
