Eager customers have packed out Toowoomba’s largest shopping centre for massive Boxing Day sales, as retailers hope the city will follow predictions of record national spending.
Grand Central Shopping Centre was busy as residents tried to snag bargains from 9am, and it only got busier as the day went on.
Retailers like Big W, Pandora, Connor and Prouds were offering sales of up to 70 per cent off stock in Toowoomba.
It comes as the Australian Retailers Association predicted a 7.9 per cent increase in consumer spending compared with the year before, which would set a new record of $23.5bn if realised.
A Grand Central spokeswoman said observations had indicated Toowoomba could follow suit.
“On the back of a really busy Christmas period, we’ve seen crowds really take advantage of the Boxing Day sales,” she said.
“Overall, we have seen busy traffic numbers, up until Christmas Day.
“It’s always good news when you hear that nationally, so we expect to see the same thing in Toowoomba regionally.
“We hope the strong sales run into the next year.”
