Rise and Shine: Everything you need to know before the ASX opens

Good morning! Here’s everything you need to know, and some things you don’t, before the ASX flings open its doors and begins trading today.

Good morning, and welcome to Rise and Shine, Tuesday April 29.

It was on this day in history that, along with a great many other things, the following occurred:

1429 – French peasant girl turned national heroine Joan of Arc and her hardy 200 or so men-at-arms (closely followed by another 4,000-strong force) entered the besieged city of Orléans during the Hundred Years' War.

Fast forward pretty much exactly a month later and things got a whole lot hotter for Mademoiselle Of Arc.

1945 – The US Seventh Army liberated tens of thousands of prisoners at the Nazi concentration camp in Dachau, Germany.

Sidenote… The shoulder patch insignia for the Seventh Army is formed by seven steps (see below). Veterans of the Seventh Army also often wore an additional tab, never officially authorised, reading "7 Steps to Hell" under the emblem.

1770 – Captain James Cook arrived at an attractive (well it would've been back then) bay in this great southern land, which he promptly dubbed Sting Ray Harbour. Presumably because of bulk stingrays flapping about 'neath the longboats. He later changed it to the less exciting Botany Bay. Because of… bulk beaut flora.

Of course, the people already going about their business there – the Dharawal people – had the original name for it, and that's Kamay.

On to the real reason you're here, however – the markets…

WHAT GOT YOU TALKING

Surging since China's export restriction last year, Antimony prices have continued to show ongoing strength after reaching an all-timer high of US$51,500 per tonne. The tight supply outlook has thrown a spotlight on resource companies that could meet the burgeoning demand for the military-relevant mineral.

Also in the news…

A sell-off in gold last week had many hitting the exit button to lock-in profits, but analysts are still bullish for gold's outlook, as Stockhead's Eddy Sunarto explored in yesterday's Hot Money Monday.

A pledge by the Labor government to stockpile $1.2bn in critical minerals if it returns to power in May has drawn support from various mining associations and councils, although some are calling for more.

The US FDA has rejected Telix Pharmaceuticals' (ASX:TLX)  marketing approval application for its brain cancer (glioma) diagnostic tool, Pixclara, but delivered better news to Dimerix (ASX:DXB), accepting a surrogate endpoint for its own marketing approval ambitions in the form of proteinuria – protein in the urine, a key marker of kidney decline.

Making news…

Triton Minerals’ (ASX:TON) reinstatement on the ASX was welcomed warmly by investors, who drove the small cap stock up 40% after the company released its annual report for the 2024 year.

While still embroiled in a legal battle over unmet payments for the sale of its Mozambique graphite assets, Triton is keen to begin exploration at the Aucu copper-gold project in central west Mozambique.

Infinity Lithium (ASX:INF) is divesting its non-core Victorian projects in a $3.4m option agreement with Dart Mining NL, with the goal of focusing all of its resources on the flagship San Jose lithium project in Spain. INF intends to develop a fully integrated mine-to-market lithium chemical operation in the Extremadura region.

Interim metallurgical test work results from Mount Burgess Mining’s (ASX:MTB) Kihabe-Nxuu project in Botswana have boosted the stock 25%. The company’s tests showed recoveries of up to 96% zinc, 79.4% lead, 91.1% vanadium, 59.3% gallium and 77.2% germanium.

Finally, Sparc Technologies’ (ASX:SPN) first inspection of its ecosparc® enhanced anti-corrosion coating on steel infrastructure has yielded positive results, with no signs of degradation or failure observed during the initial trial phase.

The company says this is the most critical period for identifying performance issues, and the results support commercial and specification discussions with major potential offtake partners.
