Gold-Copper porphyry-skarn potential at Resolution Minerals’ Spur South Project

A review has highlighted the potential for a magnetic anomaly at Resolution Minerals’ Spur South project to host porphyry-skarn mineralisation.

Special Report: Resolution Minerals has determined that its Spur South gold-copper project in New South Wales is prospective for porphyry-skarn mineralisation after completing an exploration model review.

South Spur is on the western margin of the Molong Volcanic Belt within the Lachlan Transverse Zone, a prolific mineralised structural corridor that hosts the Cadia-Ridgeway (owned by Newmont Corporation (ASX:NEM) Northparkes (owned by Evolution Mining (ASX:EVN) and Cargo porphyry and skarn systems.

Its project-scale geological setting comprises regional fault-affected Silurian and Ordovician porphyritic volcanics and volcaniclastic sediments with a 3.25km-long discrete magnetic anomaly that coincides with a faulted margin of the Ordovician-aged Fairbridge Volcanics and Millambri Formation.

Resolution Minerals (ASX:RML) noted that as the magnetic anomaly could not be explained by surface geology, it was considered prospective for porphyry-skarn mineralisation given the regional setting within a porphyry-skarn corridor.

“The identification of a discrete magnetic target that possesses the local geology favourable for porphyry and/or skarn relayed gold and copper mineralisation is very positive” executive director Aharon Zaetz said.

“Notwithstanding the requirement to better define the 3.25km-long target, the anomaly constitutes a clear and present drill target warranting our attention.”

South Spur project

South Spur was one of three projects the company acquired in March 2025.

It is in the prolific Macquarie Arc Metal Belt that is home to 25 known gold-copper porphyry systems, six world-class gold-copper mines, 17 significant porphyry deposits and two mines in the feasibility study stage.

Notably, it is just 15km southwest of Newcrest Mining’s giant Cadia Valley operations and 5km west of Waratah Minerals Spur project.

The review of the local geological and geophysical setting at South Spur found that it is conclusive for the development of large-scale gold and copper mineralisation.

RML noted the 3.25km-long magnetic high anomaly in particular is a prime target for such mineralisation as Cadia Valley and the Golden Clad/Ironclad gold and copper deposits coincide with total magnetic highs.

The company adds that more work is required to better define the magnetic target.

Proposed exploration could include reprocessing and remodelling of existing geophysical data, field reconnaissance mapping and sampling, targeted close-spaced ground/drone magnetic survey and/or an induced polarisation survey, and short reconnaissance drilling.
