Belararox identifies 20 areas to drill for copper in Botswana

More than 20 areas of interest have been identified through soil sample geochemistry across six tenements at the Kalahari Copper Belt project.

Special report: A review of existing geology and geophysics has identified three main regions with higher prospectivity, located along strike from existing deposits at Belararox’s Kalahari Copper Belt asset.

  • Belararox earmarks 20 areas of interest for Kalahari copper drilling
  • A third EM survey will begin soon to assist in defining drill targets
  • 2000m RC program will kick off in July

Fieldwork, comprising of mapping and soil sampling, has uncovered at least twenty areas of interest across the six tenements where near-term exploration will focus on defining drill targets.

Belararox (ASX:BRX) acquired publicly available geophysical data, including magnetics and gravity, that were processed by Fathom Geophysics for mapping deeper structures beneath the tenements and known deposits.

The soil sampling data was validated by an earlier orientation survey conducted on 50 soil samples, which were analysed for wet chemistry at the ALS-Johannesburg lab for comparison with pXRF data.

Fastest growing copper district

The Kalahari Copper Belt (KCB) project is within northern Botswana’s prolific belt of the same name, the fastest growing copper district in the world which hosts MMG’s massive Khoemacau and Sandfire’s Motheo mine.

Cobre’s Kitlanya East and West Copper projects, which recently attracted a $40m earn-in with BHP for up to 75% of the projects, are also nearby.

BRX added the project to its portfolio in the middle of last year, which along with the TMT project in Argentina, gives it a position in two of the most significant emerging copper domains globally.

A cost-effective exploration strategy has been put into place to rapidly enhance the 4268km2 search space with geophysical programs and subsequent validation drilling.

Watch: BRX' big plans for Botswana

Drilling to begin in July

BRX managing director Arvind Misra said the company’s exploration team has identified multiple compelling targets.

“We are excited to have commenced the onsite target generation program and progress these targets for drill testing as soon as possible,” he said.

A 2000m RC drilling program is currently planned for July 2025.
