BOUTIQUE florist Ruby Lane Flower Co has made the leap from a homegrown business to a bricks and mortar store.

Now operating from the Walton Stores precinct at 5 Annand St, owner and florist Emily Richardson said she was excited to open to the public from today.

“It just got to the point where I was overdoing it from home,” she said.

“Our house was overtaken with boxes and vases and it was just progressing from one of our bedrooms, which I had turned into a studio, and then it was in the dining room as well, then it was in the lounge room – it just got to a point where I needed a space.”

Mrs Richardson, originally a nutritionist, decided she wanted to do something new and so did a floristry course in Brisbane four years ago.

After doing some work for friends, the business within weeks built up to the point where she could quit her job and pursue floristry full time.

Then two years ago Mrs Richardson and her husband moved to Toowoomba.

“I was so nervous because I had just built it up to the point where I was able to do it all the time in Brisbane, and I was like, oh I’m going to have to start from scratch,” she explained.

“But Toowoomba was so supportive that it just progressed really easily – everyone was so nice and people just really love small business.”

As Ruby Lane Flower Co has grown, Mrs Richardson said she’d become more interested in plants and vases and pots – anything that can be given as a gift with a bunch of flowers.

So now she has the space for all that extra stock.

“I’m really excited,” she said.

“I’m kind of nervous but I also know that everyone in Toowoomba is so lovely to me, and all my customers are so lovely and so supportive,” she said.

The shop will be open six days a week, Tuesday to Sunday, operating 8am to 3pm weekdays and 8am to 2pm on weekends.
