First they were postponed by COVID-19 restrictions in 2020. Now a new date for the Surat Basin Energy Awards has been set. Here’s how you can enter.

Nominations are open for the Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise Surat Basin Energy Awards.

The awards were meant to be held in April 2020 but were cancelled due to the risk and restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new date for the awards is April 29, with nominations to close on April 1.

The inaugural awards, which will include 13 categories, have been organised by TSBE, along with event partner the Western Downs Regional Council.

Businesses are encouraged to nominate organisations and individuals for the event, which is designed to enhance the collaboration of the industry, benchmark best practices for the region and honour all nominees in a professional but social environment.

Award categories include export, leadership, safety, coexistence, health and wellness, local content, industry legacy award, innovation, community, STEM, environmental, apprenticeship and training, and indigenous achievement.

TSBE CEO Ali Davenport in a message to nominees said her organisation was proud to be delivering the Surat Basin Energy Awards for the first time in 2021 “to celebrate the enormous contribution the energy sector has made to our region”.

“We’re very proud that the Toowoomba and Surat Basin is an energy-production powerhouse with natural gas, solar, wind, ethanol and coal production all occurring within our region,” she wrote.

“The Surat Basin Energy Awards will recognise the leaders in a range of categories within the energy sector and showcase the key players who have made the energy sector such a significant part of the regional economy.

“This is a unique opportunity to support and recognise the significant contribution the energy sector has made in so many different ways to the Toowoomba and Surat Basin region.”
