After seven years of finding their feet in Australia, Santosh Paudel and Karishma Simkhada are back in business again and serving fresh coffees to locals.

The Nepalese chef and nurse have celebrated the opening of the Revised Cafe at Wyalla Plaza in Newtown, which will offer the best of Australian coffee house dining while mixing in some dishes from their home country.

It is a satisfying feeling for Mr Paudel, who sold his previous business in Nepal nearly a decade ago to move to Australia so Ms Simkhada could continue her studies.

“Back in my country, I did have a small business, which was a restaurant, travel agency and a hotel,” he said.

“I came here and I had to start from level zero, because it’s totally different over here.

“I moved in here because this is a totally new thing for us in Australia.

“My background is a business background, and I’m quite interested to do business in this area.”

Mr Paudel worked at various restaurants and cafes across Toowoomba while his wife studied, before the pair considered a move down south to open their own business.

“We were looking at other cafe locations on Ruthven St, but our plan originally was to move to Melbourne,” Ms Simkhada said.

“Now, with COVID, we decided not to move.

“Santosh is friends with one of the ladies in the hairdressing parlour (at Wyalla Plaza), and she actually recommended this place and that’s how we decided.”

The couple said Toowoomba’s relaxed community was also an incentive to stay in Queensland.

“It’s the quietness of the community, and the easy access,” Ms Simkhada said.

“Our plan for the cafe is for the long term.”
