Mango fundraiser back in time Christmas: Funds raised for charity

TONY’S Community Mango Fundraiser is back, just in time for Christmas, and this year it’s a registered charity with all funds going towards Tony’s Community Kitchen.

The kitchen is an organisation which helps this city’s homeless and less fortunate by providing food and essential services.

It is run by Tony Hurle and a group of volunteers.

The mango stall sells standard trays of super fresh Bowen Kensington Pride mangoes, with price varying depending on the market cost each day.

It also sells a varying selection of fruit depending on the day.

It has been in operation for a number of years with popularity growing.

“Lots of people see us on their way home from work, and weekends are always busy,” Mr Hurle said.

This year Tony’s Community Mango Fundraiser is registered with the Australian Charities and Non-For-Profit Commission and with the Queensland Government, and all donations over $2 will be tax deductible.

Mr Hurle said all funds raised go towards helping the kitchen stay open.

“All funds received go to support the work of the kitchen to pay rent, insurance and power to purchase food, to supplement the food that our cooks and others donate and to purchase items such as the van that we supply hot drinks from, microwaves, a gazebo for mango sales,” he said.

The mango stall is open Friday to Sunday from 9am to 6pm, or until supplies run out from now through until Christmas.

It is located in Blue Mountain Heights off the left side of the New England Highway heading from Highfields to Toowoomba.

For the first time mangoes will also be on sale at the kitchen which is behind the Settlers Inn on the corner of James and Ruthven Sts.
