ASX 200 at three-week high; Regis jumps on McPhillamys gold project, Qantas gets ACCC interim approval

Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Thursday, March 30. The Australian sharemarket records its best close in three weeks on gains led by miners and banks as economists firm up on what the RBA will do next week.

The S&P/ASX 200 index firmed 1 per cent to 7122.30, its best close since March 10. 

Wall Street futures were steady after the S&P 500 added 1.4 per cent, the Nasdaq surged 1.8 per cent and the Dow Jones lifted 1 per cent.

The dollar was buying near US66.90c at the close.
