Virtual jobs fair to help Toowoomba region businesses fill job vacancies

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses in the Toowoomba region are struggling to find staff. Here’s how they plan to address the situation.

Business confidence soaring thanks to new airport

Businesses across the Darling Downs are struggling to fill jobs, but there are hopes an innovative virtual jobs fair will change that.

The Virtual Jobs Fair is being facilitated by Regional Development Australia Darling Downs next Tuesday, November 17, from 9.30am.

Regional Development Australia Darling Downs director Trudi Bartlett said this year there had been an increasing number of businesses across the region who had job vacancies but were simply unable to fill them.

“The virtual jobs fair will be a new way for businesses to connect with job seekers to fill desperately needed positions,” she said.

“Businesses across the region have been continuously given RDA feedback that they are struggling to find staff.

“Some are even turning away work because they don’t have the workers to help deliver the work.

“The Virtual Jobs Fair is a COVID safe way for us to help connect businesses to job seekers.”

The Jobs Fair is supported and funded by the Queensland Government through the Toowoomba Regional Jobs Committee.

“The Regional Jobs Committee has been meeting since earlier this year. Originally it was formed to look at a long-term workforce strategy for our region then COVID-19 hit and now the committee is very focused on helping businesses fill positions,” Ms Bartlett said.

The Virtual Jobs Fair will assist those looking for a job by showing Job Seekers jobs that are on offer currently and connecting them with potential employers.

There will also be access to resources to help with their job search along with information about retraining and upskilling.

Businesses attending the jobs fair will be able to access information to help plan for their workforce needs.

There will also be support agencies attending who can help businesses access funding and programs to train and upskill their employees.

Job seekers can register for free at www.EmployToowoomba.net.au

Businesses interested in participating should contact RDA’s Project Officer Lauren Russell on 0435 509 376 or via email projects@rda-ddsw.org.au.
