A huge change is coming to the Jobseeker rate in next week’s federal budget after weeks of pressure on the government to increase it.

Older Australians on JobSeeker will reportedly receive a modest increase in their payments to be announced in next week’s federal budget.

The 227,000 JobSeeker recipients aged over 55 will receive the extra payment, according to Seven News. The people who fall into this category are mostly older women..

The Albanese government is also expected to announce a commitment to consider further, wider-ranging increases to welfare payments in Tuesday’s budget.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers has been under pressure to increase the rate of JobKeeper for all to 90 per cent of the aged pension.

He has already ruled out such an increase.
