After baking thousands upon thousands of cupcakes for Toowoomba residents, it’s time for the owners of the city’s most beloved cupcake shop to move on.
Crave Cupcakes not only serves up delicious cupcakes and macaroons daily with ever-changing flavours, but is also a go-to business when residents are looking for a celebratory cake.
It was opened in 2013 by Heather Woodcraft and taken over by current owners Mark and Jill Norfolk five years ago.
But the pair is closing up shop next month with plans to move to Victoria to be closer to family.
Mr Norfolk said he felt it was the right time to move on.
“It’s sad but I know the timing is right,” he said.
“Our daughter lives in Victoria, and we want to be closer to her.
“We’ll probably get more emotional as it nears the end because we both really love this shop, and we have some great customers who are really supportive.”
He said the COVID-19 pandemic was also a part of his decision to leave, along with the fact he had now completed his doctorate of Creative Art at the University of Southern Queensland.
“Covid hit us really hard, like it did many businesses, and we aren’t 100 per cent positive on what the future might be,” he said.
“Even though the future looks promising, we’ve met the goals we set out to achieve and done some really good things so it’s time to close up.”
He said there was no one highlight of his time at Crave Cupcakes instead it was all the little things that would become great memories.
“The support over the years has been so heartwarming and we’ve made some great friends,” he said.
“We’ve met some really nice people over the last couple of months especially.
“One time a customer came in an bought some cupcakes just because they thought we might be doing it tough and wanted to show their support and it’s something we really appreciated.”
Mr Norfolk isn’t selling the business, as he doesn’t believe it is the right move given the current climate.
In-shop sales will cease on December 1, with the store continuing to take and make orders up until December 10.
If you are wanting to order cupcakes at least 24 hours notice is needed, and for cakes a few days is needed.
