Country clothing stores opens warehouse in Toowoomba after 20 years in outback

Due to demand a country clothing and accessories store moved out of their shearers shed in outback New South Wales after 20 years and opened a warehouse in Toowoomba.

FOR 20 years, a country clothing and accessories business was run out of shearers’ quarters on a family property in New South Wales, until the owners decided to move to a warehouse in Toowoomba.

Dust N Boots was started by Gina and Mal Terbutt and is run with the help of their daughter Milly Terbutt.

Dust N Boots operates out of Water St and sells country clothing and accessories which are designed and manufactured by Gina and Milly.

It also sells a range of brand clothing to fill out the store, including items from LJC Designs.

Milly said the family decided it was time to move town and had been tossing up between Brisbane and Toowoomba.

“We were running the online business in a Telstra blackout area, and it was becoming more difficult, and we could see the ease and opportunities that were possible in town,” she said.

“We chose Toowoomba as we felt unlike New South Wales where country people head to Sydney, we thought Queensland country people head to Toowoomba to shop rather than Brisbane.”

She said the move was definitely the best thing for the business.

“We don’t know ourselves now we have settled in here, we have unlimited internet, no phone outages and our post is picked up and delivered right to our front door,” she said.

“Our toilet was in a cottage 200m away from the office and we’d have the odd snake to pass on the way there, we now have a toilet in the office.

“It’s been a fantastic move so far, although we have missed the daily antics that came from the shearers’ quarters.”

It is Dust N Boot’s first physical store in two decades, and Milly said it was great to not only be able to sell their designs but a range of other items as well.

“We have been adding so many goodies to the range for Christmas and have something for everyone in the family,” she said.

“We have bags, earrings, socks, flasks, wallets, belts, peg bags, a whole range of colourful clothing styles and so much more.”
