Virgin Australia offers cashback on flights as it launches sale with fares as low as $45

Virgin has upped the ante in the airline wars with new deals and a cashback offer as Jetstar launched its sale. See how much you can save.

‘Lack of competition’ has caused ‘crisis’ in airline industry

Two of Australia’s major airlines have slashed fares on the same day to as low as $30, in a bid to rake in holiday goers.

Virgin passengers will be able to grab discounted tickets to more than 130 domestic and international flights, as well as claim cashback on airfares.

At the same time, Jetstar launched its Life’s A Beach sale with fares less than $30 across 12 domestic beach destination and four international sandy spots.

Travellers who book Virgin flights through Shopback on Thursday will be eligible for a one-day cashback offer, which includes 10 per cent back on all domestic flights and 2.1 per cent on international flights.

Tickets - some as cheap as $45 - are being offered to popular destinations including Byron Bay, Sunshine Coast and Hamilton Island.

Sydneysiders can head to Byron Bay for just $45 one-way and the Gold Coast for $65, while Melburnians can go to Launceston for $59 or Adelaide for $79.

For those travelling from Brisbane to Uluru or Darwin , prices are from $125 and $175 (one way) respectively.

Some of the best international deals include return flights from Melbourne to Queenstown for just $445, Brisbane to Fiji and back for $589, and Sydney to Bali return from just $539.

The travel period is from October 9, 2024 to July 3, 2025.

The flight frenzy sale starts Thursday and ends midnight on Sunday, September 1.

Virgin Australia sale fares include Velocity Frequent Flyer Points and Status Credits.

Meanwhile, Jetstar’s sale includes one-way fares starting from $29, and four international beach destinations, with prices starting from $189.

The sale runs for five days, ending at 11.59pm AEST Monday September 2, 2024, unless sold out.

Travel dates depend on the route, but range between October 2024 and late June 2025, meaning you could score a bargain summer holiday.

One-way flights include Sydney to Gold Coast from $29, Gold Coast to Cairns from $29 and Adelaide to Sunshine Coast from $89.

International flights include Sydney to Fiji from $189, one way, as well as Melbourne to Honolulu from $292.

Earlier this week, Qantas cut prices on one million tickets in a seven-day sale.

The sale began on Monday, and applies for some one-way fares on 85 routes that depart between October 2024 and July 2025.

Fares to major routes such as Melbourne to Sydney are going for $129 and Gold Coast to Sydney for $109. Key tourism routes like Brisbane to Proserpine and Albury to Brisbane are also discounted.
