The consortia bidding for the prized Inland Rail Public Private Partnership contract have been named.

Documents were released to the three consortiums in October, with three short-listed to prepare their bids for the project.

Vying for the project are the Capstone consortium, comprised of CPB, Ghella, UGL, DIF, and Pacific Partnerships.

Heading up the second consortium G2Konnect are Acciona, Ferrovial, Cintra, and Macquarie.

And the third consortium, Regionerate Rail, is made up of GS Engineering and Construction, Webuild (formerly Salini Impregilo), Clough Projects Australia, Lend Lease Services, and Plenary.

Australian Rail Track Corporation expects to complete the PPP procurement process and be in a position to award the contract in 2022.

The Gowrie to Kagaru section of the Inland Rail project is the most complex section of the 1700km alignment.

Speaking about the project last week, Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise energy and infrastructure general manager Lance MacManus said the engineering challenges would require “substantial infrastructure construction”.

“The winning consortium’s obligations will include the construction of three tunnels in the Toowoomba, Little Liverpool and Teviot ranges of 6.5km, 1.1km and 1km respectively, as well as 126km of single and dual gauge rail tracks, 37 bridges and 21 viaducts,” he said.

When complete, the tunnel through the Toowoomba Range will result in the largest diameter diesel freight tunnel in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Gowrie to Kagaru segment of the Inland Rail represents over $3.5 billion of investment and more than 5200 direct and indirect jobs.
