Coles reports busy opening weekend for new supermarket

COLES says the opening weekend of its newest location in Toowoomba was busy, with thousands of customers piling through the doors.

SUPERMARKET giant Coles says the opening weekend of its newest location in Toowoomba was busy, with thousands of customers estimated to have piled through the doors.

The Glenvale Coles, on the intersection of Glenvale and Greenwattle Sts, officially opened on Saturday following more than 12 months of constructions.

While the company couldn't reveal its weekend figures due to it being listed on the ASX, Coles Glenvale store manager Ray Holmes said he had been thrilled with the response.

"Our team had a great time over the weekend welcoming plenty of local customers who were keen to come down and take a first look at Glenvale's newest supermarket," he said.

"We've had a busy weekend and received incredibly positive feedback from shoppers who are loving the in-store bakery and the new range of ready-to-eat meals.

"Today we've also launched our Click and Collect and online delivery services, giving customers more convenient ways to shop, and we expect these services to be really well-received by the community."

Coles has invested more than $40 million into its supermarkets across the Toowoomba region since 2012.

The new supermarket site also includes a liquor store and a bakery.
