Ben White – who cut his teeth running the renowned Bracken Ridge Tavern with his father – has put another quality pub in his portfolio with the purchase of The Spotted Cow Hotel in Toowoomba.
The son of renowned publican Michael White, Toowoomba-based White says the pub has long been a “pillar” in the Toowoomba hospitality scene.
“We’re excited the carry the torch,” he says.
“We plan to preserve the traditions that locals love, while introducing new elements to make the venue even more vibrant and welcoming. Our focus will be on enhancing the guest experience, maintaining the venue’s rich history, and expanding its offering,” he says.
The pub was sold by Glenn Price of HTL Property on behalf of Hallmark Hospitality.
Hallmark bought the venue three years ago off long-time owners the Coorey family, before completing an extensive renovation.
It is the 11th venue Hallmark has sold off recently, with hospitality giant Australian Venue Co snapping up 10 of their outlets as part of a major deal
Conference
The mining industry’s favourite conference is back again, with a cohort small cap resources companies descending on Noosa this week.
The Noosa mining investor conference is hosted by Phil Dickinson’s Equity Events and the event, which runs until November 15, has welcomed another large crowd of miners and investors to the Sunshine Coast resort town.
Nearly 60 ASX-listed companies across critical minerals, copper-gold and energy will present their wares, including Brisbane-based silica sand miner Diatreme Resources and gold miner Platina Resources, along with Sunshine Coast local Jason Becton’s Prospech.
The team from Fensom Advisory will be out in force again to cheer on Queensland success stories, led by Anthony Fensom and his band of spin doctors, with conference keynote speakers including Austex’s Rob Murdoch, Canaccord Genuity’s Reg Spencer and FatTail’s James Cooper.
The beer will be flowing Thursday evening at Noosa Surf Club as miners and investors swap stories and deals, with many anxious to see an upturn in 2025 on the back of falling interest rates and increased minerals demand from the world’s biggest economies.
Funding boost
A funding extension from New Acland Coal will allow the PCYC Oakey Connect program to
continue to support the region’s young people for another two years.
New Acland Coal, which has been supporting social and community projects throughout the Darling Downs for more than 20 years, will invest another $360,000 to fully fund the vital program.
Two years ago, New Acland Coal stepped-in and prevented the PCYC Oakey Connect program from closing due to lack of funding.
The Oakey Connect program supports young people to build resilience by developing skills and habits to help navigate life. The PCYC also champions education pathways and relationships between young people and community leaders.
New Acland Coal general manager Dave O’Dwyer said the miner’s financial support will fully fund the PCYC Oakey Connect program, including three team members, a vehicle and all program activities and community events.
“The PCYC Oakey Connect program plays an essential role in the local community,” he says.
“New Acland Coal is thrilled Kat Medland and the Oakey Connect team will continue to provide social, physical and mental wellbeing support to young people in the region.”
