Thunberg falls foul of Israeli school chiefs
Israeli officials slam the climate activist, saying her ‘inability to differentiate between good and evil disqualifies her from representing forces that strive for positive change in the world’.
Greta Thunberg will no longer be held up as a role model in the Israeli curriculum after she posed with a sign that read: “Stand with Gaza.”
The Swedish climate activist, 20, posted a pro-Palestinian message on social media last Friday, which featured a photo of herself and three other campaigners. One held a sign saying “Free Palestine”. Another sign read “This Jew stands with Palestine” and a fourth called for “Climate justice now”.
The caption on Thunberg’s Twitter/X post said: “Today we strike in solidarity with Palestine and Gaza. The world needs to speak up and call for an immediate ceasefire, justice and freedom for Palestinians and all civilians affected.”
Israel’s foreign ministry said in response: “Greta Thunberg, Hamas doesn’t use sustainable materials for their rockets which have butchered innocent Israelis. The victims of the Hamas massacre could have been your friends. Speak up.”
Thunberg replied: “It goes without saying - or so I thought - that I’m against the horrific attacks by Hamas.”

The education ministry has since announced that Thunberg had disqualified herself from being portrayed as “an educational role model” in the Israeli curriculum, The Jewish Chronicle reported.
Officials said in a statement: “[Thunberg’s] outrageous stance and apparent inability to differentiate between good and evil disqualify her from representing the forces that strive for positive change in the world.
“Her image cannot be a model for our students, many of whom saw her as [an] inspiration.
“It is important to clarify that we do not erase her contribution to the history of the global environmental movement, but rather, we are satisfied with the factual mention of her contribution, along with many other activists.”
Thunberg was contacted for comment.
