Towering 427m above the streets of New York City, the Big Apple’s newest observation deck, Summit One Vanderbilt, has opened to the public for the first time – and the reactions of those who made it to the very top ranged from breathless wonder to heart-palpitating disbelief.

Located in the heart of Manhattan, the tower features an outdoor terrace, a glass elevator on the exterior of the building, and glass-bottom booths overlooking Madison Avenue below.

Visitors are able to look down on the Empire State Building and right across the sprawling New York skyline.
