Prince Harry to attend Charles’s coronation without Meghan

King Charles is happy his son Prince Harry will attend his coronation but saddened Harry’s wife, Meghan, whom he walked down the aisle for her Windsor castle wedding, will remain in California.
Palace aides have indicated the King is happy both his sons will be in attendance for his big day but has some disappointment he won’t see Meghan or two of his grandchildren, Prince Archie, who turns four on the day, and Lilibet, who will be 23 months.
The decision by the Sussexes to have only Harry attend comes after discussions across the Atlantic where he insisted on a assurances around security.
Harry is expected to fly in for the coronation and then leave almost immediately, missing other ceremonial aspects of the day such as the grand procession through London, the RAF flypast and a big concert in Windsor the following day.
The announcement by the palace of Harry’s appearance and Meghan’s no-show was greeted with immense relief by the British public, still furious at the treachery of the couple trashing the royal family since they left for a life in California.
The couple’s plans, announced nine days after the RSVP date, have finally put paid to increasing anger about their perceived tardiness.
It will also mean the focus of May 6 will firmly be on King Charles and Queen Camilla and not the body language of the deeply unpopular Meghan.
Harry, 38, is not expected to have a prominent role in the coronation proceedings, with his older brother and her to the throne Prince William taking the vow to be the monarch’s “liege man of life and limb”, on behalf of all of the royal dukes.
That deftly keeps the out of favour Duke of York, Prince Andrew, on the sidelines as well as Harry away from the global spotlight.
The decision has created a headache for courtiers regarding the seating plan as other royals are furious at Harry and don’t want to be positioned anywhere near him.
As fifth in line to the throne, he could be seated between five-year-old Prince Louis and Princess Beatrice, with other senior royals like Princess Anne and husband Vice-Admiral Sir Tim Laurence and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh seated behind.
William and Kate, who have borne much of Harry’s vindictiveness, will possibly present a unified welcome to Harry, on a level just above frosty.
Meghan, 41, will now stay at their Montecito home with the children, possibly organising a birthday party for her eldest.
The palace said: “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the coronation service at Westminster Abbey on May 6.
“The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
Harry had previously cited security concerns as to why he has not brought Archie and Lilibet to Britain to visit.
