FBI deputy director Dan Bongino has said he will release a video that he says confirms Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide in a New York prison cell.

Mr Bongino said all evidence he had reviewed suggested the disgraced sex offender took his own life in prison and he hoped the video would put to bed any speculation of foul play.

Epstein was found dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Detention Centre with bedsheets wrapped around his neck on August 10, 2019, while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges, provoking intense public scrutiny and numerous conspiracy theories.

The financier’s death officially was ruled a suicide by hanging by the Chief Medical Examiner of New York City, who based the report on an autopsy and review of all available evidence. The ruling was supported by the Department of Justice, under Donald Trump’s first term as president, and the FBI.

The video expected to be released by Mr Bongino is said to show Epstein alone in his cell. However, the actual act of suicide is not shown.

“There’s video clear as day,” Mr Bongino, a former conservative talk radio host, told Fox News. “He’s the only person in there and the only person coming out. You can see it.”

He said the agency was reviewing the video that would be released to the public soon.

“We are working on cleaning it up to make sure you have an enhanced (version) and we’re going to give the original so you don’t think there were any shenanigans,” he said.
