‘All the gang’s here:’ royal welcome at new school for George, Charlotte and Louis
Kate and William arrive hand-in-hand with George, Charlotte and Louis as the royal children begin at a new school together.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge smiled broadly as their excited children, Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte started a new school together on Wednesday.
Holding hands in a chain as they approached the school principal at the Lambrook school in Berkshire, the family of five are clearly enjoying settling into their new home at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor’s Home Park.
The family relocated to the country, away from their London base at Kensington Palace, to allow the children more space to roam and enjoy a country upbringing.
The three children, appeared thrilled to be attending the ‘settling in afternoon’ for new starters and their families one day before the school term begins.
Described by Prince William as “all the gang”, the family protectively shielded Prince Louis, four, in the middle for his first day at “big” school. Prince George, nine, and Princess Charlotte, seven, have switched from their previous school at Battersea in London.
After shaking hands with the principal, the Cambridges then went inside for the afternoon induction.
The photographs and video were captured by an authorised cameraperson and photographer, after William and Kate had thanked the press for their ongoing care around the privacy of their children.
Under the The Editors’ Code, the UK has strict publication rules around any children, meaning that the royals, like other families in the country, have been able to drop off and pick up their children without media intrusion.
The situation highlights the misunderstanding held by Meghan Markle, after she told The Cut magazine that if her son Archie attended school in the UK she would never be able to drop him off or pick him up without it being a ‘royal photo-call with a Press pen of 40 people snapping pictures’.
Prince Harry and Meghan are staying at Frogmore Cottage for the next day as part of a pseudo royal tour, just several hundred metres away from Adelaide Cottage, but there are no plans for the two brothers to meet.
William reportedly doesn’t want a conversation with Harry that could find its way into a Netflix documentary, or in Harry’s memoirs, due out later this year.
But sources close to the Sussexes insist that Harry doesn’t want to meet his brother in any case.
