American financier and accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein has reportedly been found injured with marks on his neck in his New York jail cell.
The billionaire, who has been charged with sex trafficking of minors, was found semi-conscious in the foetal position, NBC reports.
It was unclear if he had tried to hang himself or was attacked by another inmate.
Another inmate was being questioned over Epstein’s injuries which NBC reported were not severe. The inmate, a former police officer, claimed not to have seen anything.
His sex trafficking charges came a decade after he took a plea deal in Florida for similar allegations.
Epstein had asked to remain under house arrest in his $US77 million ($A110 million) mansion on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. However a federal judge refused him bail, saying there was clear and convincing evidence Epstin would pose a danger to the community if released pending trial.
Prosecutors accused Epstein of arranging for girls under the age of 18 to perform nude “massages” and other sex acts, and of paying some girls to recruit others.
They also said there was a high risk Epstein would use his wealth to flee.
Epstein estimated his net worth at $US559 million, including a private plane and homes in Paris and the US Virgin Islands.
He has pleaded not guilty.
