Few cars in the post-ute era have captured the Australian imagination like the Ford Ranger has in recent years. As such, the release of any new model is a big deal in the Australian motoring industry.

The 2022 Ranger, the first all-new Ranger in a decade, adds both muscle and smarts to the equation in equal measure.

Tap ahead and take a look.

The new Ranger is even beefier on the outside, but refined and polished on the inside, separating itself from its slightly more generic counterparts.

The chunkier exterior design takes clear cues from the butch-looking trucks and SUVs that have found viral acclaim in the States, lending the new Ranger a more boxy aesthetic with subtle curves that make it feel athletic, yet tough.

The new Ranger, of course, is far from just a facelift. Everything, from the body to the chassis, was redesigned by a team of Australian engineers at Ford's Melbourne headquarters.

Make no mistake: this is a car built for Australians. Ford conducted more than 5000 interviews around the world, including in Australia, to distill exactly what people wanted before putting pen to paper.

The result is an agile and diverse range of utes that are tailored to fit different needs, from more hardcore off-roaders to those who simply want a utility vehicle to run their trades. The range will start with the entry-level XL: a 2-wheel-drive, single-cab option designed for tradies and fleet operators, all the way up to the Sport and Wildtrak variants which are geared towards off-road use.

It’s perhaps in the interior of the car, however, where the Ranger really enters 2022.

All of the models will receive the choice of either a 10.1 or 12.1 inch touch screen, the latter in a portrait orientation reminiscent of a Tesla infotainment system.

This is paired with revised seats and a modernised cockpit that allows for a greater crossover between work and family time: an increasing demand for truck drivers who are leaning more heavily on their work vehicles for personal use.

Brains and brawn.
