Thinking of getting a new tattoo? Body art has long been one of the most creative ways to express yourself, and while getting inked isn’t for commitment-phobes, it’s certainly a celebration of individuality that feels right. Video: Instagram | JonBoy Tattoo

For first timers, simple line art, small discreet designs, and subtle areas are great to dip your pen in the ink, so to say. Take Kaia Gerber’s lead: she got the term “Jordan” tattooed on her bicep when she was under 18, so it’s likely she needed her Supermodel mum Cindy Crawford’s approval.

Whether it’s your first tattoo, or you’re adding to a collection, who better to look to for inspiration than the fashion industry’s 21st-century supermodels.

Fine lines

Not all tattoos have to be grand, with the rise of fine line art dominating celebrity skin. Hailey Baldwin has “PRAY” scrawled across the sides of both her hands, designed by best friend Kendall Jenner, and “unseen” delicately written on her back.

Subtle spaces

Many A-listers are more inked than we assume. To celebrate the birth of her daughter, Kylie Jenner got a miniature butterfly tattoo on her ankle, while sister Kendall Jenner’s first tattoo was a mere tiny white dot on her finger.

Mantra made

Model and activist Adwoa Aboah had “Gurl” and “Power” tattooed on her hands, and after turning 25, she added to the collection of feminist phrases with wrist tattoos that read: “All the women. In me. Are tired”. It’s the smallest statements that make the biggest impact.

Geometry class

Elsewhere, model Adesuwa Aighewi got her geometric chest tattoo, she said, in response to an agent asking her to get breast implants. Talk about meaningful ink.

Bold ink

For bolder inspiration, look to the likes of Slick Woods, who stole the show at Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty, modelling just a harness to reveal an array of body art. And for those who follow the more-is-more school of thought, Cara Delevingne is covered in tattoo inspiration.
