Magpies star Jordan De Goey’s AFL future is in doubt after he was stood down by the club indefinitely following an alleged incident at a New York bar.

De Goey, as well as friend Luke Dyson, were arrested for allegedly groping a woman and assaulting her friend in a Manhattan nightclub.

De Goey and Dyson were at the Dream Hotel’s rooftop lounge bar around 2.20am when they began dancing with a 35-year-old woman and the alleged assault took place.

It led to a scuffle with a 37-year-old man, who was allegedly punched and kicked. Police were called and arrested the duo, charging them with “forcible touching and assault”.

Prior to the alleged incident, footage had emerged on social media of De Goey and Dyson preparing to go out for the night in New York.

In a series of ‘story’ clips posted to Dyson’s Instagram account, the duo were seen dancing in bathrobes at a nightclub.

De Goey pleaded not guilty to the charges after he spent a night in a jail cell before fronting a judge, still in his bathrobe.

De Goey has been released from police custody but with orders to appear in court again on December 8.

Collingwood has since stood down De Goey indefinitely, in a move supported by the AFL.

Collingwood is deeply disappointed by reports and events of the last 48 hours involving De Goey in the US. Given the circumstances, the club believes it is appropriate to remove him from the AFL program.

This latest incident comes two months after De Goey had indecent assault charges relating to an alleged incident in Kew in 2015 withdrawn.

In 2017 he was suspended and fined by the club after breaking his hand in a fight after initially claiming the injury happened while playing with his dog.

De Goey had been in the US undergoing intense off-season training ahead of next season. He is contracted to Collingwood until the end of the 2022.
