Inside some of the country’s most expensive mansions sold in 2021

In the era of Covid-19, buying ultra luxury accommodation is still high on the list for many, whether it be nationwide or overseas.

"Villa Florida" | Sold $45m

12 Tivoli Avenue, Rose Bay

In 2021, 14 properties were sold above the $30m mark — double that of 2020.

"Invergowrie" | Sold $40.5m

21 Coppin Grove, Hawthorn

Here is a look at five of Australia’s top mansions sold during the pandemic.

Hamptons style | Sold $30m

61-63 Grange Rd, Toorak

Cashed-up garbo and yacht broker Ian Malouf smashed the record for residential sales with the purchase of John and Marly Boyd’s lavish four-bedroom, multi-level unit atop the ANZ tower in Sydney’s Castlereagh St for $60m.

Rented out for high-level functions, the cavernous unit had languished on the market for several years with a hefty $66m price tag. But after viewing Crown’s One Barangaroo off the plan apartment offerings, Malouf snapped up the unit in May — along with a waterfront in Double Bay and a pad in Palm Beach.

Balmain Trilogy chief executive Andrew Griffin and his wife, Yelena Alpatova, purchased Rosemont, a historic Woollahra mansion built in 1857 for $45m. The couple are expected to undertake a major multi-million dollar renovation of the property, which has been rented out for some time.

The property was sold after almost 40 years of ownership. The 10-bedroom heritage-listed home on more than 3000sq m was purchased in the 1980s for $1.8m.

The sale of the extravagant Melbourne mansion in Toorak for $43m in mid-October set a record for the most prestigious suburb in the city, besting the previous mark of $38.8m achieved by ecommerce pioneer Ruslan Kogan in 2018.

The mansion — purchased by international businessman Mark Healey and wife Kelly — features seven living areas, a teppanyaki grill and an onsite wellness retreat. The five-bedroom house also boasts a resort-style pool, cinema, gym, and a tennis court set on a 3300sq m block.

The sale of this Hamptons-style beach house by former AFL player Tony Smith was the biggest Queensland sale at $25m in 2021 and the highest Gold Coast sale in a decade. The mansion has a 40m of ocean frontage and has been developed on a site that once held a block of dilapidated units.

Boost Juice founder Janine Allis and husband Jeff doubled their money with the sale of their Toorak mansion for $22m to billionaire Heloise Pratt. The five-bedroom home has two home offices and a Pickleball tennis court, a cut-down version of a full court, as well as a heated pool and spa and an al fresco dining terrace.
